RoHS is European legislation issued in February 2003, that bans cadmium, hexavalent chromium, lead, mercury, PBBs (polybrominated biphenyls), and PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers) by July 2006. This legislation is often referred to as the Lead Free directive.
Increasing consumer and commercial demand for electronic and electrical products, coupled with the shortening of product life cycles is escalating the amount of electronic waste produced. Much of this waste contains substances that are hazardous to humans and the environment.
Due to these environmental concerns, the need for hazardous free material solutions in electronic and electromechanical components and systems has been receiving increasing attention within the semiconductor and electronics industries.
Lectro Components has a continual commitment to supplying only environmentally friendly product through our material selection criteria program over the last number of years. Lectro has been diligently working with its suppliers and manufacturers since 2003 to identify compliant and non-compliant products.
Lectro Components has already been shipping many compliant products well in advance of the deadline. For more detailed information regarding RoHS compliance efforts by the manufacturers we represent, please CONTACT US or link directly to the manufacturer’s website through our Line Card.
